| An American tragedy hit the Anchorage theatre boards when the murder of Matthew Shepard was staged in Moises Kaufman's The Laramie Project. Directed by Christian Heppinstall for Eccentric Theatre/Cyrano's, this production saw high attendance from groups like the ACLU and area religious organizations, as well as death penalty opponents. The Alaska Humanities Forum sponsored a lecture by Dr. Rebecca Hilliker, head of the University of Wyoming, Laramie's Dep't. of Theatre and also a character in The Laramie Project.
