| Christian Heppinstall has twice directed for the stage the absurdly grotesque dramas of dramatist István Örkény, perhaps Hungary's greatest playwright of the post-WWII era. This collaboration with the Annex Theatre of Seattle was also designed by Heppinstall. Pisti ("Stevie")--the Hungarian Everyman--leads us through Hungary's history from Nazi occupation into the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 and finally into the "good years" of Goulash Communism of the 1970s and 1980s. The backdrop is a handpainted triptych symbolizing these eras. | ![]() |
